West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, heavily criticized the Trinamool Congress and accused the party of being involved in massive corruption and said that his government will introduce a law to auction the properties of those involved in corruption in the ongoing session of the State Assembly.

The Prime Minister said, “Many people think that they will stay in prison for two months and then be released on bail. They should not forget that this time we will seize their properties and auction them. We will introduce a bill on the last day of the parliament to auction the properties of those involved in corruption.”

“I will make arrangements to accommodate people living under the flyover in Kolkata in palaces on Harish Chatterjee Street,” said Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who has a residence on Harish Chatterjee Street.

Speaking during the Governor’s speech in the State Assembly, the Chief Minister alleged that ₹ 324 crore was irregularly given to FICCI at a trade conference during the tenure of the previous government.

“During BGBS, the government gave ₹324.73 crore to FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry). Will you see the former Prime Minister’s signature? This is just the tip of the iceberg!” Highlighting documents from the State meeting, Mr. Adhikari said.

The Chief Minister said that a Commission has been constituted under the chairmanship of former Calcutta High Court judge Biswajit Basu and member secretary IPS K Jayaraman.

“All the thefts they have committed, MGNREGA theft, residential theft, Jal Jeevan Mission theft, Laxmi Bhandar theft – all the thefts they have committed, this Commission will file a complaint and they will have to go home,” he said.

The Prime Minister said around 10,000 Bangladeshi citizens left the State after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power and 1,800 people were kept in State government holding centers in 12 districts. Mr. Adhikari said the former Prime Minister targeted the Border Security Force (BSF), whereas his government had allotted 142.79 acres of land to BSF for the construction of the border fence.

For most of his 45-minute speech, the Prime Minister talked about how the previous regime targeted him. Mr. Adhikari said he was suspended from membership of the State Assembly five times and was kept out of the Assembly for 11 months. The Chief Minister said more than 100 police cases were filed against him and he had to give details of 35 cases in his election manifesto even after the cases were quashed by the courts.

During the Prime Minister’s speech, Trinamool Congress MLAs led by Ritabrata Banerjee staged a strike. Mr. Banerjee had raised the issue of renaming Suhrawardy Street in Kolkata after Gopal Mukherjee.

The Chief Minister joked about the situation in the Trinamool Congress, where a group of legislators led by Ritabrata Banerjee went on strike, while others loyal to Mamata Banerjee remained in their seats. Mr. Adhikari asked Trinamool leaders to put their affairs in order and said Trinamool can never recover from division.
