Norah and Romy Carpentier were killed by their father in the summer of 2020, hours after being reported missing.
A public inquiry into the operations of the provincial police on the day of the tragedy revealed several shortcomings.
“My trust in the system has been reduced to zero. I consider that my family has been abandoned,” said Amélie Lemieux, after dozens of days of hearing.
Lack of resources, poor assessment of the danger, lack of training, organizational pride, poor communications: coroner Luc Malouin had harsh words for the SQ. He made around ten recommendations to improve police practices.
Even before the report was filed, in October 2023, the mother of the Carpentier sisters announced that she was suing the Sûreté du Québec for the loss of her daughters. According to her, they could have been saved if the police had worked better.

On May 14, the absence of an agreement between the SQ and Amélie Lemieux was criticized during the study of the appropriations of the Ministry of Internal Security (MSI), in the National Assembly.
