Geo Map Society Founder Major Shiva Kiran Passes Away

Hyderabad: Major Shiva Kiran Guntur (Retd), founder of the Geo Map Society and a well-known proponent of geospatial technologies, passed away late Thursday night following complications from a surgery. He had been receiving treatment in a private hospital for the last two weeks.

Major Kiran was born on 18 February 1966 and is survived by his family and admirers in the geospatial, educational and social sectors.

The family said the public can pay their last respects between 9am and 1pm on June 26 at his home: 6-3-1216/50, Nest Apartments, Kundanbagh, Begumpet. The last rites will be performed at Mahaprasthanam in Jubilee Hills at 3 pm on Friday.

Major Shiva Kiran, a member of Numaish, was actively involved in the annual exhibition and played a key role in the smooth running of the fair through various initiatives and organizational efforts.

Through the Geo Map Society, he has worked extensively to promote geographic education and technology. It recently conducted a GIS and drone mapping workshop for school teachers under the GEOTOP program and plans to expand the initiative to public education institutions across the state.
