Bihar Cabinet approves DPRs for four Regional Rapid Transit corridors

In a bid to develop a modern, rapid and integrated regional transport system in the state, the Bihar cabinet on Wednesday, July 9, 2026, gave in-principle approval to preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for four Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors.
The RRTS system will benefit citizens, students, working professionals and business activities across the region by providing safe, fast, reliable, environmentally sustainable and efficient last-mile connectivity. RRTS is a semi-high-speed commuter rail network built to connect metropolitan cities in the National Capital Region.
A total of 22 decisions were taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Samrat Choudhary.
The State cabinet has approved the estimated cost of ₹ 31.59 crore for preparation of Alternative Analysis Report (AAR) and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for all the four proposed corridors and entrusted the work to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on nomination basis, Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, Additional Principal Secretary (ACS), Department of Cabinet Secretariat, said at a post-cabinet briefing in Patna.
This decision is an important step in ensuring rapid connectivity between the State capital and adjacent major urban centres, Mr. Chaudhary said, adding that it will help in the development of the satellite district.
He added that the four proposed RRTS corridors include: Patna-Gaya Ji corridor, Patna Airport-Begusarai corridor, Patna-Hajipur Proposed Sonepur Airport-Muzaffarpur corridor and Patna Airport-Ara corridor.
In a separate statement, Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Mishra said that in view of rapid urbanization in Patna and surrounding areas, ever-increasing passenger traffic and increasing economic activities in major regional centres, the process of developing a RRTS has been initiated.
Mr. Chaudhary said the Bihar cabinet has also decided to extend the “Mukhya Mantri Swayam Sahayta Bhatta Yojana” (Chief Minister’s Nishchay Self-Help Allowance Scheme) for the next five years to cover financial years 2026-27 to 2030-31, adding that administrative approval has been given for an estimated expenditure of ₹300 crore under the Self-Help Allowance component for financial benefits. year 2026-27.
Mr. Chaudhary said the cabinet also approved a health department proposal for acquisition of 26.76 acres of land at All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna for expansion, which includes construction of a Super Specialty Block, an Eye Center and other essential buildings and development of necessary supporting infrastructure, adding that the estimated expenditure for land acquisition is ₹348.89 crore.
This expansion will help provide better, high-quality tertiary care to patients suffering from various diseases from a single centre.
Moreover, 76 lecturer posts have been created for different technical colleges of PG (M. Tech) in 10 government engineering colleges in the state and these posts include 9 posts of Professors, 29 Associate Professors and 38 Assistant Professors, he added.
The cabinet also passed the proposal to give five acres of land worth Rs 1 crore to the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan for 30 years for opening one Kendriya Vidyalaya each at Mauja-Behat (Adalpur) in Madhubani district, Mauja-May in Munger district and Mauja-Mushahri alias Radha Nagar in Muzaffarpur district.
