Crocodile attack: Hospital probe after boy’s records accessed

A hospital launched an investigation after about 40 staff members accessed the medical information of a child seriously injured in a crocodile pit.

The three-year-old boy, who is currently in a stable condition in Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, was attacked in the enclosure at Johnsons of Old Hurst, near Huntingdon.

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) said it was investigating whether there were legitimate reasons for accessing the records and referred it to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

“If any member of staff is found to have accessed patient records without legitimate clinical or operational reasons, we take harsh disciplinary action,” the statement said.

Officers said they were called to the zoo on June 18 at 13:34 ET.

Police said the boy, who was from Cambridgeshire and visiting the zoo with his family, was seriously injured “in a confined area” and was taken out by staff.

A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was later arrested and bailed on suspicion of attempted murder.
