Crowds celebrate in the sun for city’s Pride

Hundreds of people took to the streets of Sunderland to celebrate Pride.

Co-founder of Stonewall Lord Michael Cashman CBE, hosted by the charity Out North East, attended and spoke at the event, which concluded in Keel Square.

North East mayor Kim McGuinness was also in attendance, as well as Sunderland Central Labor MPs Lewis Atkinson and Jarrow and Gateshead East Kate Osborne.

Ahead of the event, Atkinson said: “I believe in a safe and welcoming Sunderland for everyone, a city where everyone can be themselves and love who they choose.”
