ASP Appointed To Probe Deaths Of Dalit Youths

An IPS officer has been appointed to investigate the deaths of two Dalit youths who were found dead in a canal in Brahmamgari Matham on February 5, 2026, Maidakur DSP S. Rajendra Prasad said on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference held in Maidakur, the DSP said that the incident has raised suspicion among Dalit organizations and these organizations have alleged that murder has been committed and justice has not been served. The organizations also suggested holding a ‘Chalo Kadapa’ protest to express their demands.

Responding to the demand for a higher level investigation, Kadapa SP Nachiket Vishwanath appointed Proddatur ASP Vibhu Krishna as the investigating officer.

The DSP said Dalit leaders expressed doubts about whether the FIR was registered in accordance with legal procedures. He added that the video recorded by a witness who was with the deceased was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis.

Meanwhile, the police have appealed to Dalit organisations, including those led by Mandakrishna Madiga, to cancel the proposed protest due to the ongoing investigation.

2 British students drowned on the beach

Two first-year engineering students drowned after getting caught in strong sea currents at Bhavanapadu beach in Srikakulam district on Sunday.

The victims were identified as 18-year-old S. Yeshwanth and 18-year-old G. Agastima. According to reports, these people were part of a group of students from a private engineering college who visited the beach. While swimming, the duo was dragged into deep waters due to strong currents and drowned.

Agriculture minister K. Atchennaidu expressed shock over the incident and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. Describing the tragedy as heartbreaking, he directed officials to extend all possible assistance and ensure necessary support to the families of the deceased.

32 people fall ill after eating roadside snacks

Thirty-two people were admitted to the Primary Health Center at Duggduru in Kajuluru Mandal for allegedly suffering from food poisoning after eating snacks purchased from roadside vendors.

Officials said the victims consumed the snacks on Friday evening and began visiting the hospital on Saturday. While more patients were admitted on Sunday, some were discharged after treatment.

Authorities reported that approximately 60 people were treated in private hospitals.

Forensic Medicine and health department officials went to the village and attended to the injured. Kakinada district physician and medical officer DN Naick visited the hospital and examined the conditions of the patients.

He said the patients were recovering.
