People who can’t eat gluten given prepaid cash cards in UK first

The Wales government announced that people who cannot eat gluten in Wales can soon use prepaid cards to buy special food.
After an experiment, the cards to be published in the first of the UK in this fall will go up every three months and the amount of each patient will change.
Schema aims to provide people with conditions such as celiac disease to provide a larger gluten -free food and to avoid relying on pharmacy prescriptions.
In 2007, the 54 -year -old Cherylee Barker, who was diagnosed with celiac disease and participated in the experiment, said that he took £ 14 a month on his card as a part of the plan and only drew the surface of the cost “.

Celiac disease is a serious autoimmune disease in which the body attacks the tissue of the immune system when consumed gluten. It affects one of 100 people.
Galli Cabinet Health and Social Care Secretary Jeremy Miles said: “For people with celiac disease, it is not a lifestyle choice after a strict gluten -free diet, but a medical necessity.”
Miles said Wales want to reduce Gluten -free food supply and offer people more options.
He also said that he would cut off the existing administrative loads in GPS and pharmacies and encourage NHS resources.
Users will have to pay separately food -containing foods to ensure that they are legally used.
Celiac UK said Tristan Humphreys: “For those living with celiac disease, basic gluten -free products are more than twice the average gluten.
“This scheme offers a strengthening, practical alternative for patients, and we know that the celiac community in Wales will be encouraged with this flexible new support option.”
