PlayStation will soon discontinue physical disc production for all new games released on its consoles, the company announced Wednesday morning.
New games will be released starting January 2028 sonyThe older console owned will be sold in digital formats through the PlayStation Store or through retailers; It’s a move that comes as consumers deepen their turn to digital media to access games, streaming music and more.
The move is a “natural direction” as consumers’ preferences for digital gaming are “significantly outpacing physical discs,” the company wrote in a statement. blog postHe added that the decision will have no impact on disc games released before 2028.
