New 4-day-long heat alert issued as 30C blast set to return – full list of 5 areas | Weather | News

A new yellow warning for heat was issued in five regions today and is set to cover four days. The UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) has issued an alert for the East Midlands, East of England, London, South East and South West from 12pm on 4 July until 5pm on 8 July.

Yellow alerts are issued when minor impacts to health and social care services are likely to occur due to hot weather. This includes increasing use of healthcare services by vulnerable people, putting vulnerable people’s lives at greater risk, and increasing the potential for indoor environments to become too hot.

Water-related incidents, including risks of cold water shock and drowning, may also increase.

The Met Office’s weekend forecast calls for “fair and dry” weather in the south, with “temperatures gradually rising due to strong sunshine”.

Looking ahead to next week, he adds, expect “dry, warm conditions with mostly plenty of sunshine.”

Met Office deputy head of forecasting Tony Wisson said: “Towards the end of the week, high pressure will continue to build across much of the UK, starting with the Azores.

“This will lead to more settled, warm or very hot conditions for many people, particularly in England and Wales, although some rain may still affect the far north.

“Forecasts for this weekend suggest temperatures could approach the high 20s Celsius in parts of England, perhaps 30s Celsius in parts of the south-east, and mid to high 20s Celsius in Wales.

“Although a return to heatwave conditions appears increasingly likely in some areas, the likelihood of extremely high temperatures or high humidity levels like last week is currently low.”
