Seven Workers Killed as Rock Collapses at Stone Quarry in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Seven workers from Bihar died when a large boulder collapsed at a quarry in Bengaluru on Thursday, police said. According to police, the tragedy took place in the early hours of the morning at Madapattana in Bengaluru South Taluk.
According to the police, the victims, all daily wage workers working at the stone crushing plant, were trapped under the falling rock and died at the scene.
Police said that the accident occurred while the workers were doing quarrying work.
The injured were taken to a private hospital for treatment. While the exact number of injured has not been confirmed, initial reports indicated that many workers were injured.
After the collapse, rescue teams and police arrived at the scene and started an operation.
The area was cordoned off as authorities began clearing debris and searching for other workers who may have been trapped.
One of the workers said that there were approximately 18 workers at the construction site. A huge rock fell on the workers from a height of approximately 40 meters.
Police said all the deceased were locals of Bihar and efforts were on to inform their families.
Further investigation has been launched to ascertain the cause of the rock collapse and whether there was any negligence or violation of safety norms at the quarry, police added.
