Jason Ephraim Ezekiel: Man stole more than $950 worth of drugs from Kalgoorlie vet

A man who broke into Kalgoorlie Veterinary Clinic and stole medication worth more than $950 has been forced to repay the vet.
Jason Ephraim Ezekiel, 45, appeared in the Kalgoorlie Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with burglary and handling, theft and possession of cannabis.
Prosecutor Sergeant Ian Southall said that when Ezekiel approached the veterinary clinic at 6.30am on Sunday, March 1, the veterinary clinic was closed and no staff were present.
Ezekiel leaned his chair against the window and broke the glass with a rock.
Inside, he forced open multiple lockers and stole drugs valued at $955.30.
He was later arrested and told police, “I am innocent.”
The following week, less than 1 gram of marijuana was found in his possession.
Representing himself, Ezekiel told the court he had a seizure the morning of the crime and did not remember it.
He said he had made a “very serious mistake”.
Judge William Yoo ordered Ezekiel to be placed on a six-month community-based order and to pay $955.30 in restitution to the veterinarian.
“Regional businesses cannot afford that kind of loss,” he said.
He also fined Ezekiel $100 but suspended the sentence for 14 days.
