Wimbledon 2026: Naomi Broady on whether Swan, Fearnley, Fery and Choinski can build on SW19 wins

Age: 23
Rank: 114
Who is he playing? Finland’s Otto Virtanen is ranked 140th
I think grass might be Arthur’s best surface.
To be good on grass, traditionally you need to be very tall and be a ‘serve robot’ or you need a lower center of gravity to be able to move around and get under the ball when it comes in low.
Arthur, who is well under 1.8 meters tall, falls into the latter category.
Their movements are unique and their dexterity is excellent. I love how fast he moves from the baseline on the grass court.
He races to the net to end a rally. He has great volleys, but it also helps that he is so close to the net when he makes contact.
Arthur played really well at Queen’s and got to the quarter-finals, but I think he ran out of steam at Eastbourne, where he lost in the second round.
I don’t think he’ll mind this anymore since he left a little earlier.
He had a few extra days to prepare for Wimbledon and will be beaten by Otto, who caused the biggest shock of the men’s draw by beating American fourth seed Ben Shelton in five sets.
This is not just physically, but more so mentally and emotionally.
Sometimes it’s harder to follow up a big win than it is to get a first one, so Arthur has to brace himself to push Virtanen.
