Alex Ovechkin signs a one-year deal to return for another NHL season with the Capitals

One of the biggest stories at the end of the NHL regular season was about whether we were witnessing the end of Alexander Ovechkin’s legendary career.
When we take some time to think about it, it appears that the league’s all-time leading scorer in the Big 8 will be back for at least one more season.
The team announced Thursday that Ovechkin has re-signed with the team to a one-year deal with a very team-friendly $1 million salary plus a $4.75 million game bonus (set at 10 games) and a $3.25 million signing bonus. According to Puckpedia, this works out to a cap figure of $4,250,000.

Not bad for a player of Ovechkin’s caliber.
“I’m back!” Ovechkin said in a press release. “Thank you everyone for giving me and my family time to make this decision. I’m healthy. I love playing hockey and competing to win. I’m excited to come back and join my teammates and compete for the playoffs and have a chance to win. See you in DC in September!”

Last year, although there was a decrease compared to the previous year, Ovechkin played in all 82 games and scored 64 points, 32 goals and 32 assists.
