Memorial service for sprint star Jemma Stapleton after she was killed in Thailand motorcycle crash

A young Australian sprinter will be bid farewell at the MCG on Friday after he was murdered while holidaying abroad with his family.
25-year-old athlete and former Stawell Gift finalist Jemma Stapleton died in a motorcycle accident while on holiday in Thailand.
The scooter carrying Ms Stapleton skidded into oncoming traffic on the Koh Samui highway on June 10.
A memorial service for Ms Stapleton will be held in the MCG Members’ Dining Room on Friday.
“Jemma was a valued member of the Knox Junior Athletics community,” the local Junior Athletics Club wrote on their social media pages.
“From an early age he showed great talent, determination and a real love for athletics.
“Many at our center will remember Jemma and the Stapleton family with great fondness.”

A fundraiser was also launched for the Stapleton family, receiving more than $100,000 in donations to help “relieve the financial pressure on the family.”
“Jemma would be absolutely overwhelmed to see her community come together like this; it is a true reflection of what a beautiful person she is,” the GoFundMe said.

Ms. Stapleton’s brother, Joel Stapleton, remembered his sister on social media and said, “my life will never be the same again.”
“I promise I will make you proud. You were my best sister and best friend, I will miss you forever,” she wrote on Instagram.
