UK shopping centre to close next month after 52 years | UK | News

A UK shopping center is set to close next month after the last major retailer confirmed it would close its doors.
Broadwalk Mall first opened in 1974. It was both Bristol’s first and largest retail outlet at the time.
According to the information received, the site is planned to be demolished, as well as the multi-storey car park, bingo hall and billiards hall.
The Superdrug branch is the last major retailer to operate in the center following the closure of the Icelandic supermarket in January.
Saturday, July 11 will be the last trading day for Super İlaç branch.
Branch staff confirmed the closure and thanked customers.
The pharmacy’s customers were told that following the closure, all patient information would be transferred to Knowle Pharmacy, just a few doors down on Wells Road.
Redcatch Quarter, the owner of the shopping centre, said demolition of the entire site would begin later this year, Bristol Live reported.
Prior to demolition, security for the site will be increased due to concerns about break-ins, theft and anti-social behaviour.
The development covers a large area from Wells Road to Redcatch Park and opened in 2018 to transform the shopping area into flats.
Plans originally proposed 850 flats in ten-storey blocks next to the park, but residents opposed this.
The decision was made instead to create smaller-scale tower blocks with townhouses on Wells Road near Redcatch Park.
