Feline blue? Family tell of their shock after Wilbur the tabby arrives home a striking colour

Even attending a party uninvited, let alone a gender reveal, could be considered fraud.

But one cat paid the ultimate price after crashing his neighbor’s baby shower and returning home blue.

Pet owner Sophie Jenkin was initially surprised when her two-year-old tabby cat, Wilbur, encountered a lovely, if unusual and unexpected, shade of cyan earlier this week.

“I haven’t stopped laughing since Wilbur came home upset,” the 32-year-old actor said.

‘Wilbur is actually a girl, but we thought he was a boy and named him Wilbur. But it’s a girl and it’s blue now.”

An admin worker at a local GP surgery said he was initially concerned that local children might be involved in abusing pets by throwing paint on them.

But when she shared a concerned but playful post of her blue cat on Facebook on Wednesday, her concerns disappeared and the explanation became clear.

‘At first we thought something bad had happened or that kids in the neighborhood were mistreating the cats,’ the mother of one added.

Wilbur, a two-year-old tabby who attended the gender reveal party, returned to his owners in a surprising shade of cyan.

Wilbur's owner, Sophie Jenkin, washed him after reading that the dye could be toxic, but her neighbor assured him it was just cornstarch

‘I posted a photo of Wilbur on Facebook and it turned out that a woman who lived a few doors down was having a gender reveal party. I think it’s a man.”

Sophie, who lives in Heamoor, Penzance, added: ‘I couldn’t stop laughing. I woke up laughing. The comments on Facebook made me laugh a lot too.’

The pet owner, who also has a five-year-old employee called Woody, said she bathed Wilbur after reading comments that the blue dye could be toxic, but was reassured by neighbor Hollie Jenkinson, who revealed the baby’s gender, that it was just cornstarch.

Sophie added: ‘Very funny. Very funny. Everyone is miserable at home and at work. But in the end everything was fine. England won football, my cat was blue and everyone thought it was funny.’

Wilbur has since gotten rid of his pretty blue rinse look and is back to his normal self.

Hollie also thought it was hilarious to see blue Wilbur.

He explained: ‘We thought it would be a great idea to do gender identification for our children in our garden of children kicking footballs containing blue corn starch. Everything went very well and my kids were really excited.

‘A few hours later I received a message from a family member on the Heamoor community page with a screenshot of a woman who turned out to be one of my neighbors asking why her cat was blue.

‘I immediately burst into laughter when I noticed his cat rolling around in the cornstarch left in my garden.

‘I’m so glad you found the funny side of it and it made the whole situation much funnier. Luckily, after bathing her cat multiple times, the cat is no longer blue.

‘It seemed to amuse a lot of people and definitely made my gender more memorable.’
