Two men charged after allegedly pointing fake gun at synagogue in Sydney

Two men have been charged after a fake gun was pointed at a synagogue in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

At midday, two men, aged 25 and 22, were reported to police for allegedly pointing a fake gun at the synagogue while driving on Kiaora Road in Double Bay.

The couple was stopped in a Toyota SUV, where police allegedly found the gun and arrested the men.

The 22-year-old was charged with using an offensive weapon with intent to commit a criminal offence, possession of an unlicensed handgun and stalking/intimidating with intent to intimidate and cause physical harm.

The 25-year-old was charged with possession of an unlicensed gun.

Alex Ryvchin, co-chairman of the Executive Council of Australian Jews, said the incident was disturbing.

“This is what Australian Jews faced on Shabbat. We thank the police for their quick response,” he said.
