Horror footage emerges of BMW crashing into a cafe in Leichhardt, Sydney

Shocking footage has emerged of the moment a BMW crashed into a couple eating at a cafe in Sydney’s inner west.
The driver of the gray BMW is seen slowly moving the car towards the cafe, then accelerates and crashes into an elderly diner.
Two men run to the car and bang on the windows to stop the man just before the crash.
An eyewitness who witnessed the terrifying scene told 7News that once the car reached the curb, the driver “placed” the vehicle.
“Then he knocked her out and hit her directly, it was very scary to see,” the witness said.
A woman was nailed to the wall of the cafe.
A group of customers then rush to help him.
The footage shows the driver briefly getting out of the vehicle, then rummaging through the car before looking at the woman and driving away as shocked bystanders filmed him.
As the car leaves the scene, it drags and scrapes a stool.
“He (the driver) was dazed and confused,” the witness said.
“There was no sound, he wasn’t talking, he wasn’t moaning, he wasn’t screaming.”

Another witness said the man’s eyes looked “bright” as he drove.
As the man walks away, someone shouts, “Don’t go, man, don’t go.”
“I’m filming you.”
The collision happened on Norton St in Leichhardt at around 9.50am.
The 67-year-old woman suffered serious hip and leg injuries in the crash and paramedics took her to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for further treatment.
It remains there in a stable condition.

Police found the person a short time later and arrested him.
“Police located the vehicle and arrested the driver, believed to be in his 30s, before he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital under police guard for assessment,” police said in a statement.
“An investigation has been launched into the cause of the accident”
Another witness said the driver didn’t say “a word” the entire time.
“I thought the car was going to stop on the curb, but it hit the wall.”
