V. Sivankutty urges Kerala government to resolve administrative paralysis at Thiruvananthapuram Corporation

Senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader and former Minister V. Sivankutty on Sunday, July 5, 2026, urged the State government to urgently intervene in the functioning of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. The civic body, he alleged, was plunged into administrative paralysis that severely affected the administration in the state capital.
Mr. Sivankutty alleged that attempts by the Corporation leadership led by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to protect Vazhottukonam district councilor R. Sugathan, who was kept in judicial custody after his arrest under the provisions of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA), were disrupting the day-to-day functioning of the local body.
According to him, basic civil services have been negatively affected, cleaning efforts have come to a halt, leading to garbage accumulation in the city. He also claimed that pre-monsoon cleaning activities were hardly carried out and many street lights were still dysfunctional.

He also expressed concern about alleged attempts to remove valuable official records from the Corporation office, including councillors’ attendance records. He requested the state government to appoint an independent body to investigate the matter.
Mr. Sivankutty also alleged that the management committee of the Company has not met and due to the current situation, even council meetings have become difficult to convene. He later accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councilors of creating unrest within the council and also physically attacking the Left Democratic Front and United Democratic Front councilors.

Referring to Vazhottukonam ward, Mr. Sivankutty claimed that there has been no development or cleaning activity in the area for the last five months and this scenario is causing hardship to the local people.
