Why were schools closed before?

On Monday, July 6, the Pune district administration had declared holidays for all schools after the IMD issued a Red Alert warning of heavy to very heavy rains and extremely heavy rain at isolated places.
Since there was heavy rainfall in the region, precautions were taken to ensure the life safety of the students.

Despite the closure, principals, teachers and non-teaching staff have been instructed to report for duty during normal working hours and be available for disaster management responsibilities assigned by the administration.

What about Lonavala?

Lonavala Municipal Council (LMC) had also announced that schools would be closed on July 6 following IMD’s rain forecast.

Some private schools in Lonavala informed parents about the closure via text message, citing the safety of students due to heavy rain.

However, there was no new announcement regarding school holidays in Lonavala on July 7.

Are government offices closed in Pune on July 7?

No. Currently, there is no official notification announcing the holiday of government offices in Pune on July 7.

Government offices are expected to operate normally. Employees are advised to monitor weather conditions and follow advice issued by local government.

What is the latest IMD weather forecast for Pune?

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune is expected to continue receiving heavy rainfall over the next few days as active monsoon conditions continue in Maharashtra.

The following recommendations were made to citizens:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain.
  • Stay away from rivers, streams, waterfalls and low-lying areas.
  • Follow weather advisories issued by IMD and district administration.
  • Be prepared for temporary flooding and traffic disruptions.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and any decision to close schools will depend on changing weather conditions.

Will schools be closed later?
