Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Monday, July 6, 2026, said that his party will form the government in Jammu and Kashmir in the near future.

“Like Jammu, the lotus flower will bloom in Kashmir and a BJP government will be formed in Jammu and Kashmir in the near future,” said Mr. Nabin, who is on a two-day visit to Jammu to review the organizational affairs of the party.

Mr. Nabin’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir coincided with the 125th birth anniversary of Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, who died in Jammu and Kashmir jail in 1953, and paid tribute to him.

“Mookerjee devoted his life to strengthening the unity of the country. His vision of Jammu and Kashmir came true after decades. The BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi realized Mookerjee’s vision of Jammu and Kashmir and fully integrated the region with the rest of the country by ending the special constitutional status,” Mr. Nabin said.

Reflecting on the changes in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 in 2019, Mr. Nabin said, “Previous governments had created an atmosphere. Hoisting the national flag at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk was seen as a challenge to peace. The situation has changed under the Modi government and the Tricolor is now waved fearlessly.”

He said the youth of Jammu and Kashmir were improving themselves in sports and other fields and the region, which was once known for unrest, was known for achievements in sports.

“The move (in 2019) brought real freedom and opened up new opportunities for people. The Centre’s welfare measures have helped millions of people across the country overcome poverty,” he added.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of party workers welcomed the BJP chief. He also reviewed the functioning of the party and focused on expanding the party’s footprints in the Kashmir valley.

On Tuesday, the BJP chief will visit the Mata Vaishno Devi Temple before paying tribute to Prem Nath Dogra at his statue at Dogra Chowk. He is also scheduled to hold separate meetings with BJP MPs, legislators and former elected representatives.
