Annamalai All Set to Address Mega Rally
Chennai: As part of his foundation’s ‘Drug Free’ campaign, former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai is set to address a public meeting at Pollachi near Coimbatore on Sunday. Amar Prasad Reddy, a prominent supporter of Annamalai, told reporters that the alleged drug menace is a major problem that people are grappling with, not just in Tamil Nadu but across the country.
He said that students became depressed due to drugs.
“You know, they are becoming very addictive. So this is causing a lot of problems. So Thalaivar (leader) Annamalai has taken a great decision. She has declared a drug-free month this month. So we all have to wear a white band,” Reddy told reporters here on Sunday.
He also claimed that the prevalence of drugs has become the biggest threat to both the country and the state. Annamalai is all set to address the conference in Pollachi.
He said: “We expect around 50,000 to 75,000 people to attend this Maanadu (conference) and there is absolutely no politics, only social reasons. So that is what will happen in Pollachi.”
This is the first major public event that Annamalai will tackle after quitting the BJP recently. Annamalai currently runs the We Leaders Foundation, which enrolls members and also campaigns against drugs.
Cricket matches, marathons, health camps, walkathons, cyclothons and badminton tournaments are among the events organized within the scope of the foundation’s drug-free campaign.
