Iran warns of ‘decisive’ action after US strikes around Strait of Hormuz

Tehran: Iranian state media on Tuesday reported that a series of explosions were heard in the Strait of Hormuz region, just after US officials announced “strong” attacks on Iran.

IRIB news reported that six explosions were heard on Iran’s Qeshm island, seven in the city of Sirik, and more in the major port city of Bandar Abbas.

Iran’s foreign ministry warned of retaliation and said the United States had repeatedly violated memoranda of understanding aimed at ending the Middle East war, citing ongoing aggression in Lebanon and other threats.

“Iran issues a serious warning about the consequences of America’s violation of the agreement and will take decisive measures to protect its interests and national security,” the ministry said in a statement sent to Telegram by IRIB News. he said.

The United States on Tuesday revoked a temporary sanctions waiver for Iranian oil after three tankers were hit in the Strait of Hormuz, increasing pressure on Tehran, which is negotiating with Washington to end the Middle East war.

British maritime safety agency UKMTO said an “unknown projectile” hit a tanker overnight and caused a fire, followed by two more ships being hit, at least one by a drone.
All three ships were shot down near Oman, which proposed a temporary transit corridor surrounding the coastline; This initiative was opposed by Iran, which sought to impose fees on ships using the Strait of Hormuz.
