Top trainer eyes success with three chances

Newcastle’s top trainer Kris Lees will enter Thursday’s meeting at Gosford, where he will have significant chances in three of the seven races.
Lees will start the day at the Central Coast track where he will link up with jockey Tyler Schiller, who will ride Herman Said for the Brisbane Waters Glass Cg&E Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m).
Herman Said has a solid track record and Lees is confident the son of Exceedance can return from the break with a strong performance.
“He is a talented horse who has shown his fair share of wins in his career so far,” Lees said.
“He’s won two out of nine and he’s got a couple of placings as well. He’s got good wicket pace and he’s a fast runner who puts himself out there and gives himself every chance.”
“He’s had two trials to prepare for his return to racing and now he’s ready to go. He’s been pulled off awkwardly in a small field, but if he can get across and keep everything going well then he should take a lot of beating.”
Lees-prepared starter No Limits will partner Schiller as Brown Mercantile House lines up in the Provincial Maiden Hurdle (1000m).
Also by Exceedance, No Limits had three barrier attempts in preparation for his debut.
“He had two tries recently and won the last one by a good margin at Wyong,” Lees said.
“He came right on to the soft track to score on this one and being off the Lonhro mare you’d like to think he’ll be just as adept if we face a heavy track on Thursday.
“It looks like a good race to start with and I’m looking forward to seeing it in action.”
Lees wraps up his day at Gosford with Schiller riding Issy’s Star and Shannen Llewellyn leading Strong Setting in the Coast Klima F&M Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m).
“Issy’s Star is on and talented. She finished second in both maiden races and had two good trials,” Lees said. “And Powerful Tune is a lightweight race and can surprisingly be at the finish.”
