2 Arrested For Raping Woman Seeking Justice Through TV Show

Secunderabad: Two men were detained for allegedly raping a 43-year-old woman who had come to the city to seek help for a domestic dispute through a television program offering legal advice.
According to Mahankali Police Station (Secunderabad Division) Inspector S. Ravi Kumar, the victim, who lives in Rajanna Sircilla area, got married nine years ago and has a seven-year-old son. She has been living separately from her husband for the last two years due to dowry harassment and family disputes.
He had seen a program offering solutions to family disputes broadcast on a leading television channel and decided to join the program to solve his problems. When he reached Secunderabad Railway Station, an unidentified man befriended him and claimed to have contacted the TV show organizers and promised to help him get justice.
Believing him, the woman accompanied him on her bike and the accused took her to a deserted place in Hyderi Complex in Raniganj, where he allegedly raped her. A short time later, his friend came and allegedly beat him. The woman started screaming for help and, fearing people gathering, the two defendants fled on a bicycle, leaving her there. The victim somehow managed to reach Mahankali Police Station and lodged a complaint detailing her ordeal.
The police took rapid action in line with the information given by the victim, the evidence at the scene and other technical evidence, identified the suspects and detained them, and their interrogations are currently continuing. Inspector Ravi Kumar said a case has been registered and a detailed investigation is on. He said more details would be released soon.
