Monsoon tracker LIVE: Monsoon fury batters several states, over 10 dead in rain-related incidents across country

While heavy monsoon rains that have been continuing for the last 36 hours have ravaged many places in Himachal’s Sirmaur district, the Paonta administration declared a holiday for educational institutions on Friday.

According to official information, landslides have occurred in many places in the rural parts of the district, but there has been no loss of life so far except the death of an ox when it slid into a deep valley near Shillai late on Thursday evening.

Sirmaur’s main rivers Tons, Yamuna, Bata, Giri and Markanda and dozens of streams were flooded. The management advised people to stay away from them.

Paonta Sub-Divisional Superintendent Dwij Goyal declared a holiday for all government and private educational institutions in Paonta sub-division of Himachal’s Sirmaur district on Friday following the warning issued by the India Meteorological Department for heavy rains and thunderstorms.
