Cyber Crime Police file case against Facebook user over fake poster targeting Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran

Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber ​​Crime Police registered a case against a Facebook user for allegedly creating and distributing a fake poster in the name of senior Congress leader and former Kerala Speaker VM Sudheeran.

According to the police, a Facebook account operating under the name ‘Mohammed Khaleel’ was investigated in connection with the incident. The fabricated poster incorrectly described a statement by Mr. Sudheeran as criticizing and belittling Chief Minister VD Satheesan and carried photographs of both individuals.

The First Information Report states that the image was circulated with a misleading caption attributed to Mr. Sudheeran, stating: “There is lack of coordination between departments in Kerala. Chief Minister’s one-man show performance will not last long.”

Official sources claimed that the post aimed to create hostility between the public and political groups.

The case has been registered under Kerala Police’s Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 under Sections 192 (intentional provocation with intent to cause riot) and 336(3) (forgery with intent to cheat), Section 66(c) (identity theft) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and Section 120(o) (harassment of any person by any means of communication). Law, 2011.
