England game – Foreign Office ‘closely monitoring situation’ | UK | News

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) jokingly said it was “monitoring the situation closely” as England prepared to face Norway in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals this evening.

Kick-off is scheduled for Saturday 11 July at 22:00 BST.

The match will take place at Miami Stadium, which seats more than 65,000 spectators.

ITV will broadcast the quarter-final live across the UK. The commercial channel took over after the BBC broadcast England’s thrilling victory over Mexico in the last 16.

Additional text on the accompanying graphic stated: “We continue to recommend monitoring the match closely for the latest updates.”

England’s victory over Mexico earlier on Monday peaked with 9.1 million viewers on the BBC. Despite the match kicking off at 2am (BST), it attracted an average audience of 7.8 million viewers across BBC One and iPlayer.

Live numbers could approach 20m, with the Norway game kicking off at a much more reasonable time for English viewers.

If England beat Norway, they will face reigning champions Argentina or Switzerland in the semi-finals on Wednesday, July 15.
