Will Jordan sets New Zealand try record in Nations Championship win over Italy

Will Jordan became New Zealand’s record try-scorer by scoring a hat-trick in his team’s 47-17 victory over Italy in the Nations Championship.

Jordan’s three tries at the Wellington District Stadium took the 28-year-old’s tally in 56 Tests to 50, one ahead of Doug Howlett.

“It’s special. I think back to when I was a kid practicing chip-chasing in the backyard,” said Jordan of the back three.

“It’s extremely humbling to think I’ll be here today. I’ve been part of some great teams over the last seven years and I hope I’ve inspired some kids to chip-track and dream big.”

New Zealand scored seven tries in total against Italy; Sam Darry, Cam Roigard, Ethan de Groot and Tupou Vaa’i also crossed the line.

Tommaso Menoncello and Leonardo Marin scored for Italy, which was not helped by Niccolo Cannone’s sending off in the 51st minute.

Cannone was initially shown a yellow card for headbutting Roigard, which the television match official later upgraded to a red card.
