Trump warns US would ‘decimate and destroy’ Iran over assassination attempt

President Donald Trump warned Iran on Friday that the United States would “destroy and destroy” the country if Tehran made an assassination attempt against it.

“1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and are aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, and if the Government of Iran follows through on the threat made in many corners of the world to assassinate or attempt to assassinate the President of the United States, in this case me, there are thousands of missiles to follow immediately!” Trump wrote at Truth Social.

The president said he has already instructed the U.S. military to be ready to retaliate if Iran makes an assassination attempt against him.

“The orders have already been given, and the U.S. Army is ready, willing and able to completely destroy and destroy all parts of Iran for a period of one year, subject to extension – THANK GOD!” Trump said.

Trump’s comments came a day after The Wall Street Journal reported that Israeli intelligence had recently shared information with US officials that showed Iran was considering a new plot to assassinate the president.

Earlier this week, Trump told reporters at the NATO summit in Ankara, Türkiye, that he remains Iran’s number one target.

“I am No. 1 on Iran’s hit list,” the president said.

Earlier Friday, Trump also told the New York Post that he had left standing instructions to attack Iran if an assassination attempt on him was successful.

“I’ve been on their list for a long time. This is what we’re dealing with,” Trump said. “… The only thing is, if anything happens, I left instructions to literally bombard them at levels they’ve never seen before.”

Trump also denied reports that Israeli intelligence had uncovered a new Iranian assassination plot against him.

“No, no, Israel found nothing,” Trump told the newspaper. “I became number 1 [on Iran’s kill list] It’s been a long time and that’s life, you know.”

The New York Times reported that after Trump’s visit to Turkey, the US Secret Service recommended that he travel on the old Air Force One rather than the refurbished Boeing 747 donated by Qatar as a security precaution amid renewed hostilities with Iran.

The White House did not say whether the aircraft change was related to specific safety concerns, but said the new Air Force One is equipped with advanced safety features.

“The new Air Force One is a state-of-the-art aircraft equipped with high-level security protocols that ensure the safety of the President and his staff,” White House Communications Director Steven Cheung previously told Fox News Digital. he said. “As the president recently said, America has many enemies staring at it, and we are using every tool at our disposal to counter these threats.”

Iran has been aiming to assassinate Trump since ordering the military strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in 2020.

Mourners this week repeatedly called for Trump’s death during the funeral of Iran’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The comments also come as the US-Iran ceasefire has unraveled in recent days.

Iran attacked commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz this week, prompting new U.S. military action, including a new round of attacks targeting Iranian military infrastructure linked to naval operations and other military installations.

Trump has since declared the ceasefire “over” and warned of further action if Iran continues its attacks.
