ESPN analyst stepping away after getting arm amputated as AG investigates wild accusations

The Matt Miller-ESPN saga took another turn this week, with Miller himself providing an update.
First, a little background.
Miller, an NFL Draft analyst for ESPN, was involved in a life-threatening car accident last month. Details of the accident are scarce, but we do know that Miller suffered several serious injuries, one of which led to the amputation of his arm.

The former Bleacher Report analyst posted about the ordeal on X on June 23, saying he was “involved in a serious car accident in Missouri and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital.”
“As a result of the accident, I suffered serious injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs. I also suffered a life-saving amputation of my left arm,” he continued, before mentioning a GoFundMe campaign created for him.
Matt Miller’s story is changing rapidly
At the time of the crash, a Reddit thread also went viral, with many fans accusing Miller of questionable dealings in fantasy football leagues.
According to popular fantasy football platform “Sleeper,” Miller was the commissioner of 91 fantasy leagues last season alone.
Dozens of fans who once played in a league Miller organized came forward, and they all had the same story.

It is claimed that Miller will establish a league. He was going to advertise the league. He would claim that a portion of the revenue from the league would be donated to charity.
And then, according to various accounts, the league would remain largely silent after it started and after it ended, with players in said league going months without receiving any payment… if they ever received any payment at all.

“Is there anyone in a league run by ESPN’s Matt Miller who doesn’t get paid as a winner?” the Reddit thread in question. “It has overshadowed ours since the championship and provided 0 communication about what funds go to charity/winners are paid. I’ve seen a few other people in the same situation and wanted to see if this was an issue wider than a few leagues.”
This post caught fire and things quickly went south for Miller. It also didn’t help that the GoFundMe quickly surpassed its original $10,000 goal, revising it to $55,000. There was a big difference in Matt Miller’s last post
Anyway, it all came to a head earlier this month when the Missouri AG confirmed to Awful Annoncing that he was conducting “an open investigation into this matter.”
“The Missouri Attorney General’s Office is now soliciting direct complaints from anyone with relevant information, including non-Missouri residents.” said the exit. “Consumer complaints can be filed online or by phone through the Consumer Protection team at 800-392-8222.”
Miller remains hospitalized and has yet to comment on the matter. But this does not mean that he is indifferent.
The longtime draft analyst took to X (Twitter) on Friday to offer an update, saying he was stepping away from ESPN to heal but also limited who could comment on his post.
“A quick update: The surgery to remove my left arm was successful, with the hope of eventually replacing the prosthesis. Similarly, the femur and kneecap surgeries were successful, and the amazing surgical team was able to save my left leg,” he said. “In order to best focus on my healing and recovery, I am stepping away indefinitely and will be taking a leave of absence from ESPN. Thank you everyone for your prayers and thoughts; please keep coming.”
“Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Get well soon, Matt,” Adam Schefter wrote.
“Quick recovery. I still remember how much he supported me when I came out of college,” former Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas added. “It seems like everything you said turned out to be true. I hope I can do the same for you, boss.”
Schefter and Thomas were two of only 11 people to respond to Miller’s latest post, as it was protected by the “Only some accounts can reply” label.

Every single response was positive; This was a far cry from Miller’s previous public updates about his accident. These posts were filled with comments regarding the ongoing investigation and a Reddit thread.
As for the GoFundMe? It was paused at $51,000.
