Woman dies after fight with worker at Tim Hortons in Indiana, police say

Indiana police launched an investigation after they say an elderly woman died in a fight over an order at a Tim Hortons.

According to a Press release from Fort Wayne Police Departmentofficers last week responded to calls of a reported battery involving a 75-year-old woman, later identified as Anita Grayson, and a 20-year-old Tim Hortons employee. Police have not released the name of the Tim Hortons employee involved.

police said detectives learned that Grayson entered the Tim Hortons store to “resolve an issue with an order he received through the drive-thru.” Grayson is said to have begun “berating a 17-year-old female employee” when he entered the store.

According to police, a 20-year-old shift leader stepped in and asked Grayson to leave the store. Police said the shift leader placed his hands on Grayson to prevent him from reaching the 17-year-old worker.

The incident turned into a fight, an investigation was launched into the woman’s death

Police said both scratches were found on his shift cable and a “strand of hair” was also pulled from his head. After the fight, police said Grayson sat down at the table and then picked up “the shift leader’s hair off the floor” and put it in his bag.

After a few minutes, the police said Grayson lay down and the shift leader checked on him and brought him a glass of water. When officers arrived, they found Grayson unresponsive and he was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“The Fort Wayne Police Department recognizes that any loss of life is tragic. When the circumstances surrounding a death are not immediately apparent, those circumstances must be thoroughly and professionally investigated,” police said.

Police said no arrests have been made in the death and Grayson’s cause of death has not yet been determined.

In an emailed statement to USA TODAY, Tim Hortons said the local franchisee where the incident occurred is “fully cooperating with police.”

“We are deeply saddened to learn of this incident and offer our condolences to Anita Grayson’s loved ones,” Tim Hortons said.
