Why Gen Z chilling red wine is socially acceptable, especially in the summer heat

“It’s something we’re actively seeing guests want,” admits Holly Willcocks, owner of Half Cut wine bar in Kentish Town, London.

“I definitely think it’s slowly becoming something that people are really curious about.”

Searches for chilled red wine on Ocado have increased compared to last year, and in April Aldi launched a labeled red wine that changes color when properly chilled.

“This summer has seen an increase in the popularity of chilling red wine,” says Miles Beale, CEO of the Wine and Spirits Trade Association.

“This is partly down to the heatwave and partly down to busting old wine myths.”
