The 2026 MLB All-Star Game comes to Philadelphia with the feel of the United States’ 250th birthday party; red, white and blue galore, complete with a star-studded cast that deserve their own stripes.

But Citizens Bank Park, long known as a hitter-friendly environment, produced fewer fireworks than expected as the American League defeated the National League 4-0 in the 96th Midsummer Classic.

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Dylan Cease set the tone for a dominant AL pitching performance by striking out the side in the first inning, helping complete a 10-relief three-hit inning in the NL shutout on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger hit a two-run single in the first against the home run Philadelphia Phillies’ Cristopher Sánchez, and Ben Rice followed with an RBI single.

Chicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas added a home run in the eighth inning off the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Justin Wrobleski, who was pitching on his 26th birthday, for the game’s only extra-base hit. The AL won for the 18th time in 23 games and has a 49-45-2 overall advantage.

Juan Soto’s singles in the fourth, Pete Crow-Armstrong’s eighth and Otto Lopez’s ninth singles were the NL’s only hits that failed to put a runner on first.

Pitchers combined for 27 hits, 15 of which were by AL pitchers.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene and two New York Yankees first basemen Ben Rice and Bellinger earned starting spots in the American League due to injuries.

Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays homered for St. Louis in the third inning. He was hit on the outside of his left hand by a 97.6 mph sinker from St. Louis Cardinals closer Riley O’Brien and was immediately out of the game. The 23-year-old, who is fourth in the major leagues with 28 home runs, remained on the ground for several minutes before suddenly emerging and running straight into the clubhouse. X-rays were negative.
