Silk saree that fits into a matchbox presented to Goddess Bharamaraba

A handloom weaver from the famous textile town of Sircilla in neighboring Telangana State presented a rare silk sari that fits in a matchbox to Goddess Bhramaramba at the Srisailam temple on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Loom weaver Nalla Vijay Kumar, who received the ‘Kalaratna’ award, handed over the saree to Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple Trust Board chairman Pothugunta Ramesh Naidu. Member of the Board of Trustees Kode Kanthivardhini also attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vijay Kumar said that he along with his family members wove this silk saree on a loom for a week. Mr. Vijay Kumar explained that the sari is 5.5 meters long and 48 inches wide and weighs about 200 grams. Designed in the traditional “Ikkat” pattern, the sari can easily fit into a small matchbox when folded. He attributed the creation of this rare garment to the grace of the Goddess.
Mr. Ramesh Naidu accepted the special silk saree on behalf of Devasthanam and praised Mr. Vijay Kumar for his talent and said that this traditional silk sari is a testament to the skills of our handloom artisans.

He highlighted the significance of the handloom sector within the country’s cultural fabric and noted that handloom weaving is not merely a profession but a magnificent art form passed down through generations. “Handloom textiles represent the creativity, craftsmanship and dedication of artisans,” the Trust Board chairman said, urging everyone to support handloom products.
Special darshan arrangements were made for the loom master and his team presenting the fabric.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ramesh Naidu conducted a surprise inspection of the pews and donation center and instructed the officials to give high priority to ensuring a comfortable darshan experience for devotees.
He asked the authorities to ensure constant provision of drinking water and snacks in queues to avoid any inconvenience to devotees.
