Allegedly a woman was gang raped after being held at knifepoint and beaten. Police confirmed five people were arrested following the attack, which was reported on Wednesday 8 July.

The 33-year-old victim was reportedly taken to a secluded place with the promise of a job. However, she was held captive at knifepoint before being gang raped. It was stated that the woman was harassed and beaten by a group of men before being sexually assaulted. After 5 of the detained suspects were processed at the police station, the investigation continues.

As reported by News MinuteIt was claimed that the woman was gang raped in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu state of India. The suspects were identified as Veerapandi, Vinith, Aravind, Selvakumar and Gopalakrishnan.

Police charged each of them with gang rape, criminal intimidation, voluntary wounding, rioting and robbery. Meanwhile, a sixth attacker remains at large and detectives are working to catch him.

According to local media reports, the men were posing as personnel recruiting for domestic worker jobs. They reportedly took the victim to an office before keeping him waiting for five hours.

They then allegedly took her to a nearby village, where she was held at knifepoint and gang-raped. The men stole her phone, gold chain and money from her purse before fleeing the scene.

The woman was left at the scene before reporting the alleged rape to local police. The police launched an investigation into the incident and detained 5 of the 6 suspects.
