Venezuela earthquakes kill 920 people as families desperate for news

In the images broadcast on state television, it was seen that one of the morale-boosting events across Venezuela was the rescue of three young brothers from the rubble covered with dust and debris in La Guaira.

“Come here, child, come here,” a man says to the first child to emerge alive from the gap between the concrete piles.

The man then asked him, “Are you brothers?” When he asks, a girl comes out and the girl replies, “Yes, there are three of us.”

Shortly after, with a little more difficulty, the third sister appears, covered in dust from head to toe, sobbing.

A moment of silence is observed for those who died. According to social media and local news, Venezuelan football player Héctor Bello’s wife was killed while saving her daughter.

Bello wrote on Instagram that his “precious love,” whom Venezuelan news outlets called his wife Andrea, saved the lives of their young children during the earthquake.

“I will tell her the story of how you saved her, my love; how you gave your own life for our daughter, how you were a brave woman who never abandoned her, even when she breathed her last,” Bello said in a post.

The governments confirmed that a Portuguese citizen and two Brazilian citizens were among those killed.

According to the news of the Spanish media based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are four Spanish citizens among the dead and the identities of 106 people are still unknown.

Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said that more than one state was affected by the twin earthquakes. The areas most affected by the epidemic in Caracas were the Los Palos Grandes and Altamira neighborhoods.

The government said aftershocks largely affected the country’s northern coastline, including La Guaira, Aragua, Carabobo and Falcón.
