Louisiana man charged in alleged killing of deputy US marshal during standoff

A Louisiana man has been charged with murder for allegedly killing a U.S. deputy who was shot while serving an arrest warrant, federal authorities announced Tuesday.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana, multiple law enforcement agencies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a previous sexual battery charge when Clarence A. Frazier Jr., 48, of Alexandria allegedly barricaded himself in his home and opened fire.
Frazier is accused of killing a federal officer and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison or the death penalty if convicted.

Authorities identified the slain U.S. marshal as Drew Hanson, whom authorities described as a devoted husband, father and son.
“Tragically, the defendant’s alleged actions cost the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer who was simply doing his job,” Acting U.S. Attorney Todd Blanche said in a statement. he said. “The alleged perpetrator is now in custody and will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
According to authorities, the attack occurred July 13 after members of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Rapides County Sheriff’s Office found Frazier at his home and obtained a search warrant for the property.

Frazier failed to appear in state court for trial on a charge of sexually assaulting a disabled person, according to the federal criminal complaint.
After making their presence known, law enforcement was able to force their way into the home, authorities said.
Frazier allegedly locked himself in a bedroom and opened fire on officers, attacking Hanson.
