Kyle says Argentina players’ Falklands banner totally inappropriate
It was “completely inappropriate” for Argentine players to wave a banner supporting their country’s claim to the Falkland Islands after their World Cup semi-final victory over England. Peter Kyle he said. Defending champion Argentina beat the Three Lions 2-1 in Atlanta on Wednesday, the Press Association reported. PA says:
While Argentine fans celebrated their victory with enthusiasm, some fans near the field were holding a banner that read “Argentinians, sons of Las Malvinas”. falklands “The islands are Argentine.”
The banner, referring to the dispute over Britain’s overseas territories, was advanced towards the players who held up the banner as they basked in victory.
They could face disciplinary action from FIFA’s governing body for breaching rules banning political messaging on the pitch.
When asked about Argentinian players waving the banner, KyleThe finance minister told BBC Breakfast: “My reaction is that this is completely inappropriate. Politics needs to be separate from football. In fact, one of the fundamental principles of the World Cup is that politics is separate from football.”
“This is now FIFA’s matter. I expect FIFA to investigate thoroughly.”
Kyle said the independent assessor will decide whether Jingye will receive any compensation for the nationalization of British Steel
Peter KyleIt is possible that Jingye, the Chinese firm that once owned British Steel, will not receive any compensation for its nationalization, the trade minister has said.
When asked about this on Times Radio, Kyle said:
The legislation that has passed parliament and that I have seen in parliament now has a mechanism for an independent assessor to decide whether any compensation should be paid.
When asked if it was possible for no compensation to be paid, Kyle replied:
This possibility exists. It is now up to the independent evaluator to make this decision.
Alan Bell, British Steel‘s interim CEO welcomed the news that his company was being nationalized. In a statement he said:
This is a pivotal day for British Steel and everyone associated with our business – our dedicated employees, our valued customers and suppliers, and the tens of thousands of people in our supply chains and local communities.
More than that, this is a historic day for Britain and UK manufacturing; A day that protects our future and strengthens national security and infrastructure.
Reform UK says ‘a good government is finally listening’ to calls to nationalize British Steel
Reform UK takes some credit for nationalizing British Steel because the party called for it earlier this year.
Richard TiceThe Reform UK deputy leader issued this statement, seeking assurances that no compensation would be paid to Chinese company Jingye.
Reform UK called for the nationalization of British Steel in April last year to secure Britain’s critical virgin steel production capabilities for the next 50 years. It’s good to see that the government is finally listening.
We now need a bold strategy to support British industry by ensuring British steel is used in both public and private sector supplies, while also scrapping net zero, which is crippling our industry with sky-high energy costs. We should be proudly patriotic when buying British steel.
Compensation must not exceed £1. This job carries great responsibilities and billions of liras of investment will be required to rebuild the blast furnaces. Taxpayers should not reward failed ownership.
Reformation UK’s support for the nationalization of steel is significant because it is more or less the party’s only policy that enables Kemi Badenoch to claim that Reformation is left-wing. Reformation is very right-wing in almost every respect.
Starmer came to Kiev
Yakup Krupa The Europe live blog features more coverage of Keir Starmer’s trip to Ukraine.
Starmer nationalizes British Steel and visits Ukraine on last full day as Labor leader
Good morning. Conventional wisdom has it that when a Prime Minister announces that he will resign, all his powers vanish faster than water flowing down an open blockage. In general, this is true. But in the last week Keir Starmer He appears to be acting with a determination that has eluded him for much of his time in office: finalizing the defense investment plan; delivering the long-awaited apology to victims of forced adoption; excessive judgment on the security services to grant privilege that endangered the Hillsborough bill; and eventually granting a conditional pardon for Ruth Ellis.
This is not happening because being on the way out makes a Prime Minister more powerful. But this helps them focus and forces them to stop rambling.
And today we saw another example. On his last day as Labor leader, Starmer nationalized British Steel.
In fact, this is an issue that has been studied for a while. But the steel industry (nationalization) bill only received royal assent yesterday, and the government used it to nationalize a company previously owned by the Chinese company Jingye, which was already under public control.
At work government press release. Here is our story jasper jolly.
In a statement, star player in question:
British Steel is part of the fabric of our nation and the cornerstone of Britain’s industrial strength.
Today’s decision secures the future of steelmaking in the UK, protects skilled jobs and secures a vital national talent.
This government will always act in the national interest to support British industry, strengthen our economy and ensure that the industries we rely on thrive long into the future.
But Starmer, who will replace Andy Burnham as Labor leader tomorrow and Burnham as Prime Minister on Monday, will not be at the British Steel plant in Scunthorpe to celebrate. He visits Ukraine instead.
