When the United States and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28, Tehran effectively closed the strait to ship traffic; This caused oil prices to rise and gave Iran a huge advantage in negotiations.
Col. Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for the Iranian military’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, had previously threatened that Iran could launch large-scale attacks on “all infrastructure in the region” if the United States followed Trump’s repeated warnings that he could hit Iranian bridges and power plants.
“As a foreign and extra-regional country, we will not allow America’s intervention in the Strait of Hormuz under any circumstances and in any way,” he added. “This is Iran’s invincible red line.”
