East coast to be battered by monster waves

The Bureau of Meteorology said a low pressure system in the Tasman Sea was forecast to create large waves and dangerous surf conditions along the east coast this weekend.
A dangerous surf warning has been issued for the Gold Coast, Byron and Coffs coastlines, advising people to stay out of the water and avoid walking near surf-prone areas.
Boaters are told to consider changing or postponing trips between shallow water and ocean bars, while people already in the water are told to make sure they have safety equipment and are wearing life jackets.
Rock fishermen are also warned to avoid rock platforms exposed to the ocean along the coast and to seek safe places sheltered from the surf.
Bureau of Meteorology Meteorologist Ilana Cherny said the coastline was at risk of damage from large waves.
“We will also continue to see some showers and more severe conditions in this area,” he said.
Isolated showers are expected along the Queensland coast, while inland areas will be dry and sunny on Saturday, with temperatures reaching 23C in Brisbane.
NSW is set to have a foggy start to the weekend, with similar conditions across the state, with Sydney forecast for a forecast temperature of 19C.
Canberra will start the day with a freezing start, followed by a sunny day with temperatures reaching 16 degrees.

Victoria will be cloudy in the north and temperatures will be above average in the east; It’s a mostly sunny day for Melbourne with a top temperature forecast at 16C.
