Woman fighting for life after 20m rock climbing fall at Mount French in Queensland’s Scenic Rim

A young climber is fighting for his life after a devastating fall during a rock climbing trip in Queensland’s Scenic Rim.
It plunged nearly 20 meters on French Mountain on Saturday morning, triggering a major emergency response in the difficult forest area.
Emergency services were called to the mountain, about 100 kilometers west of Brisbane, just before 11am following reports that a climber had been seriously injured.
When paramedics arrived at the scene near Mount French Rd, they found the woman, in her 20s, with serious injuries.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the woman suffered “serious head injuries”.
It was also stated that he was seriously injured in his arm after a fall that occurred while climbing with a group at around 10.45.
The rescue operation was complicated by dense underbrush, making it difficult for emergency crews to reach and remove him from where he landed.

A rescue helicopter was sent from Brisbane, but the woman had to be moved first so she could be safely winched or loaded for evacuation.
He was eventually flown to Princess Alexandra Hospital with a life-threatening condition shortly before 1pm.
Footage published by 7News showed emergency crews gathered at the foot of the mountain and monitoring ways for people to climb from the base of the cliff.
