At least two US soldiers were killed in action while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks in Jordan, according to US Central Command. One soldier was reported missing, while four other soldiers were medically evacuated to hospitals in Jordan before being discharged. In a written statement attributed to Khamenei, the Iranian leader warned that his country would learn “unforgettable lessons” for the United States if Washington continued its attacks on the Islamic Republic. He also declared President Trump’s interim peace agreement signed between the two countries “worthless and invalid” and accused the United States of repeatedly violating the commitments made under the agreement.
The statement, read on Iranian state television, came at a time when the two countries continued their mutual attacks targeting military areas and infrastructure.
Khamenei also reportedly warned of “lessons” to be learned from Iran and armed groups in the region, which Tehran describes as the “Axis of Resistance.”
The threat came hours after Iranian deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran was suspending its commitments under the interim agreement with Washington.
He claimed that the US had violated its commitments under the agreement, which was signed around a month ago, and said Iran was “no longer implementing” its obligations.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Saturday it targeted a US military support center at Camp Arifjan, south of Kuwait City, as well as a radar facility at Ali Al Salem Air Base.
Iran also launched attacks targeting Bahrain and Jordan, while Kuwaiti armed forces said Iran’s ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles were seized.
One of the attacks targeted Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, also known as Azraq, a joint facility of the Royal Jordanian Air Force and the US Air Force in Jordan’s Zarqa Governorate.
The base hosted US F-15, F-22 and F-35 fighter jets as well as MQ-9 Reaper drones, making it a major hub for American air power in the region.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth responded to the deaths of two American soldiers in a social media post: “For God’s sake, heroes. Their sacrifice only strengthens our resolve.”
