Naked Arizona man arrested for alleged train surfing incident in Colorado

He got on the train, but his clothes were left behind.

An Arizona man was arrested after authorities allege he broke into a Union Pacific locomotive and surfed naked atop a moving train as it passed through northeastern Colorado, leaving witnesses stunned to watch the bizarre ride before deputies took him into custody Thursday.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Daniel Ray Ballance of Quartzsite, Arizona, and claimed he broke a window to get into the locomotive before climbing onto the roof while the train was in motion.

Ballance faces felony and misdemeanor charges following the incident, authorities said.

Witnesses reported seeing Ballance naked on the locomotive before deputies arrested him, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office later shared his mugshot in a mocking Facebook post about the arrest.

“For those of you who had the misfortune to see this gentleman surfing naked on top of a moving locomotive yesterday, I want you to know that he was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges,” the sheriff’s office said. he wrote.

Ballance later told deputies that he liked “vodka, beer, and playing the Banjo,” according to the sheriff’s office.

“Daniel expressed his love for vodka, beer, and playing the Banjo,” the agency joked. “Unfortunately, we had to separate him from those loves and the train ride.”

“Instead, Daniel remains in jail where he is fully paid, where he is presumed innocent until proven guilty,” the sheriff’s office said. he said.

Ballance was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on the felony and misdemeanor charges. Court records detailing the charges were not immediately available.

KDVR reported Ballance allegedly broke a window to enter a Union Pacific locomotive before boarding the moving train.

Authorities have not publicly stated what caused the incident or whether anyone on the locomotive was injured.
