McGregor reveals ACL and meniscus injury to his right knee at UFC 329

Conor McGregor has finally revealed exactly what happened to his right knee during an all-too-brief return to the UFC octagon in Las Vegas on July 11.

McGregor, who lost by technical knockout to Max Holloway at UFC 329, said it was “pretty shocking” to learn what he injured during UFC 329.

“Update: acl and meniscus,” McGregor shared on X.

“Same injury as in the first Holloway fight, only this time on the opposite leg. Pretty shocking.”

McGregor fought Holloway 13 years ago before gaining global fame through mixed martial arts. It’s a complete coincidence that this happened more than a decade later, but McGregor is once again trying to maintain a positive mindset.

McGregor continued confidently: “With today’s advances in regenerative medicine and advanced training methods, it’s within my purview to return next summer.” “I walk without crutches. The other day I worked out with a leg extension machine without any problems. So I can walk without assistance and work my quads under resistance. It’s all very positive. I’m at maximum discipline and I’ve maintained that fully since the match.”

“I wonder if I was saved from a worse situation. I believe so. I would have attended the after party as a ‘man’, who knows then. I believe I was saved. Thank God! Here we go, no sad stories. Thank you for your support and good wishes to everyone, your health is your wealth.”

It wasn’t much of a match as McGregor turned on Holloway and tried to land a kick. When McGregor landed on the canvas, he immediately grabbed his right knee and slammed it into the deck.

Holloway took advantage of the situation and tried to tackle McGregor while he was on the ground. But despite dodging some serious punches from Holloway, McGregor clearly wasn’t right.

Referee Mike Beltran called the fight just seconds before the start of the first round, giving Holloway the victory and bringing the UFC 329 co-main event to a deflating end.

After the match, McGregor was understandably upset.

“My head gasket is gone. Ruined,” he wrote to X at the time. “I didn’t suffer any injuries during the fight. Throughout the camp and before the fight, I was kicking, standing and jumping backstage. This came out of nowhere. I’m beyond darkness here. I can only describe it as hell.”

McGregor’s camp was even shown pre-fight footage from the locker room, where the two-division champion was rehearsing his jump balls. It was landing just fine.

McGregor’s UFC career record currently stands at 22-7 after this TKO finish, but the 38-year-old still looks ready to recover and return to the octagon. He doesn’t want to end his fighting career this way.
