Bulldogs close gap on top eight after upsetting Warriors
Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall believes his relationship with Adam Doueihi is salvageable and says “we need to find a solution” after the team’s 56-10 defeat to Canberra without the regular half-time.
Marshall asked Doueihi to move from his preferred No. 7 position to starter Javon Andrews for the shootout with the Raiders. Doueihi held his own in the GIO Stadium encounter rather than moving to lock.
It was a baptism of fire for Andrews, who was part of a team that conceded 10 tries to officially crash out of the final race. Marshall said meetings would be held between himself, Doueihi, his management and club officials in an attempt to resolve the dispute.
“Obviously we need to find a solution,” Marshall said in his post-match press conference. “It’s been a tough situation to deal with this week, to be honest; it’s been an unexpected situation to be honest. But at the same time, as a coach, I think from my perspective, I’m always going to try to make decisions about what’s best for the team to win and win.”
“From the guy’s perspective, I can understand his frustration that I asked him to play a different role. And then, he wasn’t in the best shape to play this week, you know? So you’ve got to respect that, and that’s what we did. Then we tried to move on, but yeah, it’s tough.”
