MP Govt Tables UCC Bill Amid Congress Uproar Over CM Land Row

-Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government on Monday introduced the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the assembly; Here, noisy scenes were witnessed as the Opposition demanded discussion on land purchases allegedly linked to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.

The state government tabled the Single Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2026 on the opening day of the five-day monsoon session as Congress members demanded an urgent debate on the alleged scam in Ujjain.

After members of Congress went down to the well, the Parliament was adjourned for 30 minutes.

Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar said the House will begin debate on the UCC Bill on Tuesday.

A recent newspaper report had claimed that Yadav and his family members had purchased large land parcels after Yadav became the chief minister; This accusation was rejected by the BJP as baseless.

As soon as Question Hour ended, Opposition Leader Umang Singhar raised the issue of land acquisition linked to the prime minister and his family through an adjournment motion, inviting strong objections from BJP legislators and ministers.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya opposed the request, saying the issue could not be taken up through an adjournment motion.

He argued that the postponement motion is generally considered based on the latest developments, not on old developments.

Congress MPs flocked to the well of the House shouting slogans and Singhar insisted on a debate, arguing that the adjournment motion was related to land acquisition allegedly linked to the Simhastha area and the alleged purchase of land by the chief minister’s family.

After members of Congress refused to give up, the Speaker postponed the hearing for 30 minutes.
