Key takeaways as Andy Burnham becomes PM

In her first speech to Downing Street, Burnham announced that she would “end insomnia in our country”.
This was quickly followed by press release 10, which promised an extra £340 million for the mission over the next five years.
He has also promised a new 10-year plan for Britain, to be announced later this year, and to build a new economy that will “put the fundamentals of life back under public control”.
However, he argued that people also need “breathing space” and said that announcements regarding the fight against the cost of living would begin on Tuesday.
Other changes he promised included changing the education system to help young people get into work, building more social housing and meeting defense funding commitments while adhering to the UK’s spending and debt rules.
