Kalaburagi Police launch ‘Beda Bro’ and ‘Operation RISE’ anti-drug awareness campaigns

Kalaburagi City and district police on Monday launched the “Brother Beda” and “Operation RISE” anti-drug awareness campaigns to strengthen efforts against drug abuse, trafficking and sale of narcotics across the district.

The campaign began with the release of campaign posters of Police Commissioner SD Sharanappa, Deputy Commissioners of Police Shalu and Praveen Nayak and Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu at the City Police Commissioner’s office on Monday.

The initiative follows “Operation RISE” launched at the state level by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Home Affairs during the celebrations of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 30 June. As part of this initiative, Kalaburagi police have launched twin campaigns to promote a drug-free society and encourage public participation in the prevention of narcotics-related crimes.

Speaking to members of the press, Dr. Sharanappa and Mr Srinivasulu said drug use continues to have serious consequences on mental health, family relationships, academic performance, professional career and general social well-being. They stated that many lives have been lost due to drug addiction, making public awareness and community participation critical in combating the menace.

The “No Bro” campaign aims to deter teens from trying drugs due to peer pressure, academic stress, relationship problems or other personal difficulties. The campaign encourages individuals to reject drug use and seek healthier alternatives.

Police officials also urged citizens to report information regarding the sale, possession or trafficking of narcotics, as well as other illegal activities, through the KSP App or by scanning the designated QR code. Authorities promised that the identities of the informants would be kept strictly confidential.

Dr. Sharanappa added that the ‘Operation RISE’ campaign focuses on encouraging people to reject drugs, reporting drug-related activities, supporting those affected by addiction and empowering communities to collectively fight the problem.

Police officials said that within the scope of the initiative, anti-drug committees will be formed in educational institutions. These committees will consist of principals, physical education teachers, student representatives and local police personnel who will work together to identify concerns, run awareness programs and prevent drug use among students.
